Amarillo Texas (Route 66)

History: Amarillo’s history dates back to the late 19th century when it was originally settled as a railroad town. The town’s growth was greatly influenced by the arrival of the Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad in 1887. The railroad’s presence led to the development of cattle ranching and agriculture in the region.

The city’s name, “Amarillo,” is derived from the Spanish word for “yellow,” likely referring to the color of the local soil or the wildflowers that bloom in the area.

Route 66: Amarillo gained further prominence due to its location on the Historic Route 66, which was one of the original U.S. highways and stretched from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California. Route 66 played a crucial role in the westward expansion and development of the United States, serving as a major route for travelers, migrants, and tourists.
