Let me tell you, there’s nothing that gets my engine revvin’ like talkin’ about Seligman, Arizona, the town where my store, Route 66 Road Relics, is located. This isn’t just any town, folks; it’s the birthplace of Historic Route 66, the heart and soul of the Mother Road. You see, Seligman played a mighty important role in keeping the spirit of Route 66 alive when it was almost forgotten. Back in 1978, when Interstate 40 bypassed Seligman and a whole bunch of other Route 66 towns, folks around here started to worry. They knew that if they didn’t do something, those old roads, those classic diners, those mom-and-pop motels, they’d all fade away. So, a group of Seligman folks got together and formed the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. They fought hard to get the state to recognize the historical significance of Route 66, and in 1987, they won! That’s why Seligman is known as the birthplace of Historic Route 66.
