ROUTE 66 TRAVEL GUIDE TO TOPOCK ARIZONA

Topock, Arizona – a hidden gem nestled along the Colorado River, where the spirit of Route 66 and the Old Steam Boats still lingers. This charming town offers stunning riverfront views, a laid-back atmosphere, and a fascinating history that’s sure to capture your imagination.

Hey everyone, Big Mike here. Let me tell you about this cool little town called Topock, Arizona. My wife Amanda and I were driving through on our way back from a trip to Needles, California. We’d just finished a tasty lunch at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant – their burgers are top-notch, by the way – and we were ready to see what Topock had in store.

Now, I’m a bit of a history buff, so I was pretty excited to check out this place. Before we left Needles, we stopped by the Needles Regional Museum, and the folks there were super helpful. They told me all about the steamboats that used to run up and down the Colorado River, and how one of ’em was actually docked right here in Topock! Well, that got my gears turnin’, and I knew we had to check it out.”

See the Colorado River and docks? Topock has always been connected to the water, from today’s boats to the steamboats of the past. Now, Topock’s got a history that goes way back, even before Route 66 came along. It all started as a little train stop and steamboat landing called Mellen. They named it after a steamboat captain, Captain Jack Mellon – guess he was a pretty important fella back then. Topock was a busy spot, especially when the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad came through and built that big Red Rock Bridge over the Colorado River in 1890.

Somewhere along the line, they changed the name to Topock. I read that it might be a Native American word, maybe Mohave, that means ‘water crossing’ or ‘bridge’. Makes sense, seein’ as how the town’s right there on the river. Anyway, Topock became a real important place for crossin’ the river, and then later on, it became a popular stop on Route 66.

But what really put Topock on the map was Route 66, bringing travelers and excitement to this little town on the Colorado River. Speaking of which, don’t miss the video above – it gives you a glimpse of what Topock is all about!

Hold on a minute! Before I get too far ahead of myself, I gotta tell you about something else we saw in Topock. Once we crossed the Arizona state line, we just had to check out the Old Trails Bridge. You know, the one from “Easy Rider” and “The Grapes of Wrath”! That bridge has been around since 1916, and it was used for cars until 1947. Then they started using the Red Rock Bridge for cars, and the Old Trails Bridge became a pipeline bridge. Pretty cool, huh?

After checking out the Old Trails Bridge, we crossed over the freeway and made our way to Topock 66. But first, this huge water tower with Route 66 and a giant sunflower caught our eye! I knew I just had to share it with you all.

Now this looks like a fun place! Right on the Colorado River, Topock 66 has it all: a marina, a store, a restaurant and bar, and even a hotel now. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the river life

And check out this cool Route 66 mural outside the store and bar! It’s just one of the many ways Topock 66 celebrates the Mother Road.

Here’s a peek inside the bar and restaurant. Check it out – they even have a pool! And I heard they have a swim-up bar, too. How cool is that?

This place looks like they’re all set up to have a good time on the Colorado River! With all those amenities and that awesome location, who wouldn’t want to spend some time here?

“And finally, here’s the new hotel that was just recently built at Topock 66, overlooking the Colorado River. What a view! It’s the perfect place to stay if you want to experience all that Topock has to offer
