Howdy, Route 66 Travelers! Big Mike here, your guide to the Mother Road’s marvels, and today we’re moseying on over to Rolla Missouri, a town brimming with Route 66 charm and some quirky surprises. Rolla offers a blend of history, roadside attractions, and a touch of the unexpected. So, grab your camera and your sense of adventure, because Big Mike’s about to show you what makes Rolla a must-see stop on your Route 66 journey!

First up, we’re diving into the heart of Route 66 nostalgia at the Mule Trading Post. This isn’t just a souvenir shop, folks; it’s a living piece of Route 66 history. Located at 14060 MO-44, the Mule Trading Post is a treasure trove of Route 66 memorabilia, from vintage signs and postcards to unique collectibles. You’ll also find local crafts and other goodies, making it the perfect place to pick up a memento of your Route 66 adventure. Take your time browsing – you never know what treasures you might uncover!

Now, for something completely different… Stonehenge in Missouri? You heard that right! On the campus of the Missouri University of Science and Technology (1051 N Bishop Ave), you’ll find a full-scale replica of England’s famous Stonehenge. It might seem a bit out of place on Route 66, but this replica was actually built as a teaching tool for astronomy students. It’s a fascinating and unexpected stop, offering a unique photo opportunity and a chance to ponder the mysteries of the universe (and maybe even the mysteries of Route 66!).

Back to Route 66 proper, we’re heading to The Totem Pole Trading Post (14001 MO-66). This classic roadside attraction has been a Route 66 fixture since the 1940s. You can’t miss it – there’s a huge totem pole standing tall, welcoming travelers to explore the gift shop. Inside, you’ll find a wide array of souvenirs, Route 66 memorabilia, and other unique items. It’s a great place to find that perfect, quirky gift or a reminder of your time on the Mother Road.

While not directly on Route 66, a short detour in Rolla Missouri will take you to the Historic Phelps County Courthouse (200 N Main St). If you’re interested in architecture and local history, this beautiful building is worth a visit. It’s a stately example of classic courthouse design, and it offers a glimpse into the history of Phelps County.

Rolla Missouri, offers a little bit of everything for the Route 66 traveler. It’s a town where you can explore the history of the Mother Road, discover quirky roadside attractions, and even find a bit of Stonehenge in the heart of the Midwest. It’s this blend of the familiar and the unexpected that makes Route 66 so special.

And speaking of special, remember those classic Route 66 tunes? “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” is the ultimate road trip anthem. And who could forget the Eagles’ “Take It Easy” and its shout-out to Winslow, Arizona? “Standin’ on the corner in Winslow, Arizona…” It’s a classic! And don’t forget to visit my place, Route 66 Road Relics in Seligman, Arizona, the birthplace of Historic Route 66!

Remember, Big Mike is your Route 66 companion, always ready to point you in the right direction. So, keep exploring, keep those cameras clicking, and keep the spirit of Route 66 alive! Happy travels!
