A ROUTE 66 TRAVEL GUIDE TO EL RENO OKLAHOMA

Route 66 Attractions in El Reno, Oklahoma

Hey there, fellow Route 66 enthusiasts! El Reno Oklahoma, is a town that’s definitely on my must-see list for my next Mother Road adventure. From what I’ve gathered, it’s a place rich in history and brimming with unique attractions. Here are a few highlights that have caught my eye.

First up is the El Reno Mother Road Monument, located at W Wade St & S Choctaw Ave. This monument is a tribute to the significance of Route 66 in El Reno’s history. I haven’t seen it in person yet, but I imagine it’s a great spot for a photo and a moment of reflection on the legacy of this iconic highway.

Next is Historic Fort Reno at 7107 W Cheyenne St. El Reno Oklahoma This fort dates back to the late 1800s and offers a glimpse into the region’s past. It was established in 1874. Fort Reno was built to help maintain peace between the Southern Cheyenne and Southern Arapaho Reservation and settlers. It was also used as a supply depot for General Custer and his troops. It’s said to be a well-preserved site with various historical buildings and exhibits. Fort Reno sounds like a must-visit for anyone interested in military history or the history of the American West.

Finally, there’s the Rock Island Bridge at US-81 & S Rock Island Ave. This bridge, part of the old Rock Island Railroad line, is a significant piece of transportation history. It was built in 1926 after the original bridge was washed out. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. It represents the railroad, Route 66, and Military Highway 81. I hear you can actually drive on a portion of it that’s been preserved as part of Route 66, which sounds like a pretty unique experience.

From what I’ve read, El Reno is a town that embraces its Route 66 heritage. It looks like a place where you can step back in time and connect with the spirit of the Mother Road. I’m definitely adding El Reno to my itinerary, and I hope this little preview inspires you to do the same!
